MEETING MINUTES WINTHROP COUNCIL ON AGING Date: Thursday, June 13, 2024 Time: 10:30 AM Location: Robert A. DeLeo Senior Center 35 Harvard Street, Winthrop, MA 02152 Present: Kathy Dixon, Director, Council on Aging Kathy Driscoll Cynthia Huff Mary Vitale Absent: Alice Haskell, Chair Linda Cronin Heather Martin Call to order at 10:40 AM by Kathy Dixon, Director, Council on Aging I. Approval of Minutes As a quorum was not present, a Motion to approve the Minutes of the April 11, 2024 and May 9, 2024 meetings will be made at our next meeting of August 8, 2024. II. Announcements There were no new announcements presented. III. Director ’ s Comments A. Kathy Dixon reported that the Capital Fund provided for a new roof for the Senior Center by June 30, 2024. The work began on June 12, 2024, and it is now almost completed. There are a few more items to finish up, i.e. fixing the bases and painting around the doors. New handicap bars have been added to the stalls in the Ladies and Mens Rooms, and new toilet papers dispensers will be forthcoming. This is all from the Capital Improvement Fund. B. Kathy Dixon reported that the Formula Grant for this year is $80,000 - $14 per senior. This amount changes yearly. She reported that two Casino trips are planned for this year. There will be a $5 charge, and participants must be members of the Senior Center. One trip will be in July, to Plainridge, and the other will be in September, to Foxwoods. She also reported that we have a new 65 inch TV in the middle room. C. Kathy Dixon reported that our van ridership continues to increase. D. Kathy Dixon reported that the Tax Program is underway and that everyone has been happy with the job placements. She indicated that those who will be working for the School Department may be starting in a few weeks. E. Regarding discussions at previous Council on Aging Meetings with respect to having a representative from The Ride come to the Senior Center for a presentation, Kathy Dixon reported that upon contacting The Ride, they have informed us that they do not provide sessions such as this. F. Kathy Dixon reported that plans for a CPR training course are still in the works. IV. Adjournment There being no further business, the meeting was adjourned at 11:32 AM by unanimous consent. Our next meeting will be held on Thursday, August 8, 2024.
