The two Estimators that were contracted to look at this project came within 100K of each other, which is a good sign. No sitework will occur during the next two weeks while stormwater culverts are manufactured. Steve Calla made an impromptu appearance at this meeting and provided an update on these pipes. He emphasized that they would secure water storage capacity during high tides and represent a major upgrade. The new layout reroutes the pipes for 100% accessibility, replacing the old system which is currently buried under the gymnasium. The final design of the gymnasium wall was approved. Jim Letterie said he has heard concerns from residents that the project is over budget and there are delays. Mr. Pallotta assured the committee that neither is true, the project is on time and within the proposed budget. Karin Chavis asked for a newsletter to be drafted and distributed to the community to keep everyone informed about the project. Prior to the meeting, a 30-minute site visit to the new firehouse took place. Dan Pallotta and Marc Champagne pointed out two debris piles – one to be removed and disposed of off-site and the other to be repurposed as fill for the foundation. Mr. Pallotta also outlined the general layout for the building and parking lot before the committee adjourned to the Harvey Room. Next meeting : August 24th @ 4:30.
