CDICR Meeting Minutes - 8/12/26
Attendance: (chair), Celeste Riberio-Hewitt, Anita Preble - Scott Mahoney-Wright
guest Frank Figueroa
Updates:
- 8/29/26 from 12 - 3 Accessible Adventures at Deer Island (arrive at 11:15 to
volunteer and get assignments)
- Web page updates for commissioners - Scott reached out to Denise Quist about
it again today
- Looking to find out if a remembrance was held for the 5 years since the murders -
Anita will reach out to the Memorials Committee to find out and maybe plan
something over by the bench and tree if not
- Hispanic Heritage Month - 9/15 - 10/15 - possibly have another panel
discussion? Scott will speak to WWT to see if they want to collaborate with us.
Possibly have it in French Square? Maybe work with CASA? Anita to reach out
We could combine it with Italian Heritage month in October? Invite the council?
- CASA beach event on 8/8/26 was terrific - everyone enjoyed it except for the
heat - next year they plan to get a lifeguard so the kids can go in the water
- Invitation went out to Kim Dimes (precinct 2) to come to our meeting - she is
planning to attend in September.
- Discussed starting an email list to keep people informed.
- Discussed the idea of changing the name of the commission to something that
doesn’t include the word diversity, as it has a negative connotation of late.
Thought about checking with other towns to find out what their commissions are
named and maybe reaching out to talk to some of them for ideas
- Scott will send the list he has of the various “awareness” months calendar for the
website and maybe the town manager’s newsletter
- Anita will reach out to the Chamber of Commerce to find out if they happen to
know which businesses in town are owned by people of the Hispanic community
or Italians to work on the heritage months coming up - Also find out if they are
“small business certified”
- Talked a little about the need for transportation from the landing and advertising
for the ferry to get people from Boston to visit our local restaurants and
businesses from the ferry?
Next meeting - 9/9/26 at 6:00 at the Town Hall rm 2
